Learning outcome: Evaluate if there is a significant relationship between favourite type of snack and gender.

1. Collect the data

Survey between 40-50 people and ask what their favourite snack is, then total the results in the table:

2.Looking at your table, does it appear to you that there is a dependence between gender and favourite type of snack food? Why or why not?

3.Hypothesis Test

Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the factors are independent.

a. What are the null and alternate hypotheses?

b. What distribution should you use for the hypothesis test?

c. Calculate the test statistic.

d. Find the p-value.

e. Sketch a graph of the situation (shade the rejection region)

f. State your decision.

g. State your conclusion in a complete sentence.

4. Look at your conclusion from the hypothesis test and what you thought in question 2 when you looked at the table.Are your findings the same or different? Why do you think your conclusion is the same or different?
