Length: 2 pages

For the first paper, you will write about three topics that you would like to focus on for your final paper. In around two pages (Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, one-inch margins on all sides), please describe the three topics you would like to study. Each topic should have at least one credible source to back up your claims (i.e., a news story, a research report, etc.). Generic websites and Wikipedia do not count as credible sources. You need to do two things for each of your proposed topics:

1. State the topic (your topics should be media/communication-related, e.g., TV, newspaper, social media). What youre trying to do here is convince people that a significant problem exists in society. For instance, years ago (and still today) few people living in the US saw litter as a problem. However, various media campaigns made their case to the public that litter was a significant problem that deserved our attention. Advocates would explain why this was a problem (hurting wildlife) and the extent of the problem (the amount of litter in the environment). You have similar goals in this paper. Your goal is to explain the nature of your problem. Specifically, you should outline why your topic is a problem (i.e., who/what is suffering?) and the magnitude of the problem (i.e., how big/far reaching is the problem?).

2. Explain whether this topic can be investigated. Why?
