Although your final lesson plan will probably have three or four scenarios to be given
as learner activities during the application of new knowledge period, or let learners
develop their scenarios, for this task, you will use the problem in Q1(a) to set the
context and introduce the problem statement. Part of your INTRODUCTION
phase will be to introduce learners to problem-solving techniques using the process
shown in Figure 2.
(a) Assume you are using a flipped classroom approach as part of your wider strategy.
For the highlighted lesson, you want your learners to familiarize themselves with the
problem-solving cycle before attending class. Create a 4-to-6-minute voiceover
PowerPoint video you will share with learners to prepare for class. In the video, you
will use your problem from Q1(a) for authenticity/relevance as you explain the steps
in Figure 2. Remember, your video is targeted at Grade 10 learners, therefore, the
pitch and tone should fit the age/grade. Please note, that after recording using
PowerPoint, your video must be saved as an .MP4 format. However, should you
decide not to use PowerPoint, use an equally good alternative.

Formulate at least three balanced learning objectives for the highlighted topic in

(ii) Motivate assessment strategy(ies) you intend to use. These must align and help
achieve the lesson objectives. These must be engaging assessment activities.(5)
(iii) Introduction Phase:

b. Compile an introduction plan that (a) incorporates the video you created in Q2(a);
(b) probes prior knowledge (i.e., this can be common folk knowledge) related to
algorithms; and (c) includes/integrates the scenario from Q1(a) as a problem
statement to anchor the discussion in the whole lesson. (9)
(iv) Teaching & Learning Phase:
a. Among other teaching and learning approaches/methods, incorporate the
problem-solving cycle shown in Figure 2. Motivate the additional methods that
you will use in this phase. HINT! Keep in mind the discussion in Mentz (2015)
chapter two, specifically Section 2.2.2 Principle of Active Learning, and 2.2.3
