Let's all pick a State. Any State. Do some internet research, and try to find out if that State (or perhaps some cities in that State) has any kind of law protecting gays and lesbians from employment discrimination. (Remember - at present, federal law prohibits this kind of discrimination, and federal law over rides state law. But if state laws also protect against discrimination, a victim can bring a state law claim in state court, rather than suing in federal court based on federal law). There are helpful maps that summarize some of this information on websites for the Human Rights Campaign, or LAMBDA, or the ACLU. You'll probably also find articles about states or cities that have recently passed non-discrimination laws, or that once passes such laws but are now going backwards and rescinding them. Let's hear what you find, and what you think!
