M1N223769 - Work Based Project: Learning for the Real World

Project Report Template

  • Use this template or proforma to guide the structure of your Project Report. In each section below you will see questions and/or instructions. Do not limit yourself to the prompts belowevery student will need to produce their own unique content.
  • If you wish to make changes to the suggested structure, please discuss with your module leader (and mention this when seeking advice from ADTs).
  • With a total word count of approximately 2500, each section of the report will vary in length. For most students, the first three sections should be 500-800 words. The final two sections will be shorter, perhaps around 200 words each. This is just an estimate. If your structure needs to deviate from these suggested ranges, please discuss with your module leader.

Project Report Template:

  1. Identify and observe a problem or issue in your workplace
  • Clearly identify a problem or issue you see in the workplace. This could be, for example, regarding safety, health, operations, business, policy, HR, customer service, or other.
  • Describe. Who does it effect and how? Where and when does it occur?
  • Gather evidence to show that it is a problem. You can measure, count, track, time, map, log, photograph, or use other methods of gathering evidence.
  • Use TFR or outside reports and data if available.
  • Present the evidence of your problem in a clear and legible manner. Use a mix of text and graphic content (graphs, charts, illustrations, photographs).

  1. Desktop Research
  • Study this type of problem in more depth. Find five to ten sources (theories, studies, reports, case studies etc.) that help you understand the problem better.
  • Try to answer questions such as:
    • What other companies, TFR locations or other industries have had problems like this?
    • What were the causes? What were the effects?
    • How serious is this type of problem?
    • Are there policies or best practices that tell us how to deal with this kind of problem?
  • Present what you have learned one source at a time. Explain the main argument or finding of the author, and how they arrived at their conclusions. Explain how this has helped you figure out your problem.

REMEMBER EVIDENCE BASED

  1. Opportunity: Use Your Research
  • Now that youve completed some research, how does that change your view the problem you first described?
  • How significant is the problem in your workplace?
  • What are the likely benefits of solving it?
  • What are two possible ways to solve your problem?
  • Compare one solution to another using both research and local evidence.
  • Is there more research you need to do before you can decide which solution is best?

REMEMBER EVIDENCE BASED

  1. Conclusion

Briefly summarise your problem and how you documented it

Remind the reader of how your research helped you understand the problem

Leave the reader with an impression of the major implications of your project how can we use the information?

Make some preliminary recommendations or next steps (this can include more research to answer things you dont yet know)

IMPORTANT NOTE

You are not expected or required to generate solutions for your problems. Do not move on to solving your problem. Your recommendations should outline what you would do next imagine you are asking your board for permission to continue to work on this problem this is the format of recommendations (AND NO SOLUTIONS SHOULD BE INCLUDED)

  1. Reflection

What you have learned in this project? Using a reflective model from PPD: Becoming a Reflective Practitioner.

  1. References according to GCU Harvard Style.
  2. Appendices (include any extra documentation of your problem, such as photos, maps, stats etc.)
