M6 - Lab Assignment - Autopsy Analysis of Graphic Image Files
Overview:
Graphic image files, both the image itself and associated metadata, can provide crucial information to an investigation. In Hands-On Project 8-1 you will use Autopsy to locate and extract JPEG files with altered extensions.
Access the virtual lab you are directed to by your instructor (using the Consolidated Lab Access instructions provided in the Course Materials folder). Follow the instructions and complete the steps given in Hands-On Projects 8-1 in your textbook. The Autopsy tool and graphic image files are available on your forensics workstation in the virtual lab. Submit screen captures of the report you generate for step 5 of Hands-On Project 8-1. Specifically include the Case Summary, Metadata, Tagged Files, and Tagged Images portions in your assignment analysis, then submit using the assignment link.
When logging into your VM use the Student account with the password 607forensics. The data files needed for the lab are in a folder on the desktop named Lab Data, in the sub folder for this module. You will not need to download them. There is a Work folder build for you on the desktop.
