Machine Capabilities

A quality control expert will be reviewing your work to ensure that your design is precise. You must explain how you produced the construction and show your extraneous marks so that the quality control expert can verify your work before your design is mass produced.

Begin by reviewing the constructions you learned in the Tools of Geometry unit and in the Constructing Parallel and Perpendicular Lines lesson of this unit. Then practice each construction on a separate piece of paper using a straightedge and compass. You learned the following constructions:

• angle bisector
• congruent angles
• congruent segments
• equilateral triangle
• parallel line through a point not on the line
• perpendicular at a point on the line
• perpendicular bisector
• perpendicular from a point to a line
• quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides

1. Create a wrapping paper design that includes at least four of the following constructions:

• a bisected angle
• a perpendicular line drawn from a point not on a line to a line
• a perpendicular line drawn through a given point on a given line
• a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel lines
• a segment bisected by a perpendicular line
• two congruent angles
• two congruent segments
• two parallel lines, one of which is drawn through a given point
