A fridge magnet, ruler

Preliminary Questions:

Play around with the "Magnetometer" part of the app to build some intuition, then answer the following questions based on your observations.

1. How do you think the magnetic field depends on the distance from a magnet?

1. Write down an equation which you think describes the magnetic field B at a distance R from a magnet.

Experiment:

1. Design your own experiment to find the relationship between the magnetic field and the distance from the magnet.

1. Fully describe your methods. How will you set up your experiment? What measurements will you take? What sources of error do you need to account for?

1. Take measurements and list your raw data in the provided table. The more data you collect, the more accurate your final result will be. At a minimum, please measure at least 10 data points.
