Haley, who has worked for 5 years as a remote healthcare worker, just completed her Master of Health Services Administration degree. She was recently promoted to a remote management training position because of her education and her excellent job performance. Although this case study focuses on the healthcare industry, Haley is an example of a growing global trend of employees in many different industries who work remotely. According to a recent survey, more than 80% of the respondents indicated they would prefer remote work to manage a work-life balance. However, some of Haleys remote colleagues had left their positions because they felt isolated and disengaged from their organization. This case study discusses the four main principles of management, strategic planning, and the challenges of applying these concepts to a remote workforce. Haley believes that creating a remote management training plan, which covers strategic planning, communication, leadership, and evaluation strategies, is needed to increase remote worker productivity and satisfaction. Students will be asked to evaluate the components of Haleys training plan and brainstorm other best practices for managing a remote workforce.
