Managers do not have all the time in the world to work directly side by side with there workers and help them every step of the way, so I think and important thing for them to use is encouragement of problem solving skills. By encouraging and developing a team towards the goal of being problem solvers you can eliminate some excess communication when there is no time because the employees can try to think for themselves as much as they can before they contact you. These problem solving skills must include a solid understanding of the job so that they can fully understand everything that needs to happen and needs to get done within it. A manager can not always be there to help troubleshoot so I think this is important to instill in a strong developing team of employees.
