Question: Maple is a student at UFV, she found a summer job at Roberta s Lawn and Garden. Roberta the business owner founded Roberta s Lawn

Maple is a student at UFV, she found a summer job at Robertas Lawn and Garden. Roberta the
business owner founded Robertas Lawn and Garden about 20 years ago. Every summer Roberta
hires students to go door to door prospecting for lawncare customers. A student will be assigned a
neighbourhood with 200 houses, knock on all the doors and deliver flyers. Normally at about 1 out
of 3 houses someone will answer the door (depending on the time of day). Students hand the flyer,
and try to schedule a first lawn mowing at the discounted initial 50% off the regular price of $150.
Students receive 10% of the sale price of the lawn for the initial sale, and on the recuring revenue
stream from future lawns mowed receive 5%. In a typical summer a customer will have their lawn
mown about 30 times.
Typically, students quit after about 5 days of door-to-door prospecting, with only 20% of hires
working the whole summer long. However, those 20% of students who stay produce 80% of the
revenue Roberta is looking for, these students find the work very lucrative. For her best students
(who come back every year) about 1 out of 3 of those who answer the door will book a lawn service.
After about 5 days Maple is exhausted and demoralized, she has visited 1000 houses, and sold 5
lawn mowings at 50% off. Roberta personally likes Maple and sees a lot of potential in her, so she
has been putting a lot of pressure on Maple to visit more houses during the day in order to sell as
much as the other sales reps saying, Honney you need to move, look how many orders Philip has,
he has been here just as long as you and just closed his 111th lawn. Yet despite Robertas best
efforts to motivate Maple, Maple is planning to quit after the team meeting on Thursday.
Implementing strategies from this class and from our textbook, what do you believe Roberta can do
to keep Maple from quitting and help her feel the job is rewarding?
The first part of your answer should be a page long explaining the strategy you propose (with
references), the second page should be a script of the potential meeting where Roberta tries to
resolve the situation.
