This project takes some of the key concepts discussed in the BNKG 1340 course and enables you to gain a better understanding of the key economic indicators that impact our economy and how they correlate to decisions made at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) level.
The first three items can be generated in Microsoft Excel and integrated in the Microsoft Word document:
- On the below indexes, report weekly changes (i.e. increases or decreases) over a five (5) week time period (List the date the information was accessed). List the percent change over the time-frame analyzed and what impacted a change in the index?
- Dow Jones Industrial Average
- NASDAQ
- S&P 500
- Search the treasury yields listed below and monitor current, weekly, monthly, and yearly data over a five (5) week time period (List the date the information was accessed). What changes did you see? What is the basis point change?
- 3-month T-Bill
- 2 Year T-Note
- 10 Year T-Note
- 30 Year Bond
- Obtain rates on the following items (Use Microsoft Excel to list your findings):
- Prime Rate- Current Prime Rate and the Prime Rate for the last three (3) quarters
- Fed Funds Target Rate-List the current rate as of the date the information was accessed
- 3-Month London Interbank Offered (LIBOR) Rate-List the current rate as of the date the information was accessed
- 30 Year Mortgage Rate- List the current rate as of the date the information was accessed
The fourth items can be provided in Microsoft Word:
- Choose five (5) economic indicators from the Economic Calendar (i.e. Housing Starts, Jobless Claims, Consumer Confidence, etc.) and note the date that the information was accessed and list your findings (ensure that findings are grammatically correct and should be presented with a font no larger than a 12-point type. A minimum one paragraph is required for each economic indicator
