Mary has a problem on her hands. She has recently taken over as general manager of a medium sized (200 employee) company. The business has for years been run by Mary's uncle who has suddenly retired due to poor health. Mary's uncle made all the decisions in the business and everyone in the business reported to him. Mary does not have the energy or time to manage every little thing in the business and wants to focus on growing the business. Her first action was to delegate authority to small groups within the company with the expectation that the employees, as adults, could manage their own work. She also asked all employees for suggestions on how to improve the business. To her amazement, the employees kept coming to her and asking her for detailed instructions regarding what they should do and expecting her to monitor their work. She is frustrated!
Using concepts from the course, propose and justify a different way of organizing this business that Mary may try ( a different organizational structure)
