MAT 157 Inferential Statistics Final Project 2022
Goal:Use Quantitative Inferential Statistical Methods to answer a question relevant to you. This can be done in a variety of ways including hypothesis test on a mean, proportion, two means, or two proportions. You can also use the methods in chapters 10-11 as well (Linear Regression/correlation and Chi-Squared tests) See Blackboard for details on how this will be scored.
Requirements:
- Ask your own question related to a topic of interest or find a published "claim".Make sure this question can be answered with accessible quantitative data sets.Find sample data that is representative of the population you are analyzing and post the link (and link to claim if applicable).Experimental or observational studies will be fine. Self-administered convenience samples are not appropriate. If the link is to a lengthy website, research paper etc. then include a summary or screenshot of the specific data/information you are using.
- Be sure you know the sample size.
- If you are doing an analysis of means, be sure you have or can calculate the standard deviation.
- Be sure to state these values in your writeup.
- Determine aspecifichypothesis that you would like to test.
- State the hypothesis in non-technical terms (ex: Do Polk county Iowans have a higher than 40% approval rating for the U.S. President?)
- State the null and alternative hypothesis using formal notation. (ex: H0: p=.4 and H1: p>.4)
- Indicate the population you intend to infer your result to.[Hint: Your sample should be representative of this population.]
- Compile your data to test your hypothesis. Thoroughly report your findings by including:
- Describe the sampling method and any other details about the data collection process.
- State your sample statistic(s).
- Describe the statistical test used and the test statistic value using the appropriate notation.
- State the p-value.
- State the conclusion and interpret the result in context. [Hint: This should reference the p-value and answer your original question of interest.]
- State the appropriate confidence interval for the population parameter based on the sample data.
- Interpret this CI in context and determine if it supports the results from the hypothesis test.
- Submit this document with answers to 1-4.Also submit any files with raw data and any screen shots from analysis from StatCrunch in this document or in the assignment.
