MAT 258 Lab 5 Due Monday April 25th (4/25/2022) by 2:50pm For this lab you are to address each of the following parts in a lab write-up. Include any relevant Minitab output into your lab write-up. The write-up should be well organized and clearly indicate which part of the lab the submitted response is addressing. The Lab assignment will be collected through Blackboard as a word file or as a pdf and can be found in the content folder labeled Lab 5. Consider an investigator is interested in determining if a linear relationship exists between the amount of sunlight exposure (days) a certain species of plant has, and the growth of the plant (millimeters) at a=0.05 significance level. Where growth is the response variable, and sunlight is the explanatory variable. They collect a random sample of 25 plants of a certain species and measure the amount of sunlight exposer and change in growth over a certain period of time. Table 1: Plant data Obs Sunlight Growth Obs Sunlight Growth 1 18.6 23.4 14 20.5 22.7 23 22.9 31.0 15 21.6 24.1 16.0 22.1 16 21.3 27.6 4 24.4 27.7 17 18.8 22.7 567 19.3 23.9 18 19.6 25.8 18.5 21.7 19 17.2 20.8 22.5 29.8 20 20.2 23.3 8 20.1 27.5 21 20.0 23.2 9 21.3 27.2 22 23.1 30.7 10 19.2 25.3 23 19.3 23.4 11 20.6 30.3 24 17.3 19.9 12 20.6 25.0 25 19.5 24.0 13 18.3 26.4 a) Produce descriptive statistics for the amount of sunlight exposure (days) and the growth (millimeters) for the data provided. Include the mean, median, standard deviation, maximum value, and minimum value. b) Write out the statistical hypotheses of interest for the slope of the least-squares regression model in this scenario. c) Verify that the normality assumption is met for this regression model. d) Provide the p-value for the hypothesis test of interest in this experiment, and the conclusion that you would make for this experiment. e) Produce the 95% confidence interval for the true slope coefficient of the least-squares regression line in Minitab. f) Using the formula from class calculate a 95% confidence interval for the true slope coefficient of the least-squares regression line. g) Produce a 90% confidence interval for the mean growth of plants that have had 21.3 days of sun exposure. h) Provide an interpretation of the confidence interval produced in part g.
