Material Management includes what and how much raw material is purchased, as well as the handling, storage, distribution, valuation, and control of materials from the time they are received until production occurs. The material is transformed into products or used in the production process. According to Hudson and Booth, managing work includes managing the system that produces the product. This includes overseeing the inputs necessary for the accomplishment of work. If we look at Material Management from not only the perspective of managing the tasks involved in the flow of materials but also look into if the flow of materials is efficient or wasteful, we will find where waste exists, therefore, make necessary changes to eliminate waste. Discuss what changes can be made to eliminate waste in material management.
