Purpose: For you to be able to demonstrate how to create, edit and delete matters and to locate information on a matter card.

Outcome: Demonstrate knowledge of technologies and software common to the law offices, including case and document management systems, time and billing software, docket/calendar control processes, and electronic court filing procedures.

Creating Matters Assignment:

You will be creating 3 new matters under your Contact card (the one you created with your name). You will also link my contact information in your matters. Each new contact is worth 10 points. To get credit for this assignment you can do screen shots or a text entry (Canvas) telling me assignment is done. I will then check Clio.

You will be building on each of these matters as we go through the program. I have completed all assignments under the contact Corinne Hawkins if you need a reference check.

Matter 1: Corporate Case

1. Create a new matter under your name (contact) as Corporate (for example Hawkins Corporate).
2. The responsible attorney is rtcstudent
3. The originating attorney is me (Corinne).
4. Everyone should have permissions.
5. Make up your own matter number.

Matter 2: Litigation Case

• Create a new matter under your name (contact).
• The matter name is your first name as plaintiff and Kermit the Frog as Defendant. (i.e. Hawkins v. Kermit the Frog).
• Same attorney designation and permissions.
• Statute of Limitations is December 11, 2023.
• In Related Contacts Tab enter Arbitrator in the "relationships" box and then add Happy Go Lucky from the drop down box.
• If you want, add another related contact for opposing counsel - you pick the name so you can fill out info about that fictional person. This is good practice as this a task you do all of the time.
• Billing Preference is contingency fee - 33.3%

Matter 3: Wills and Estates

• Create new matter under your name (contact)
• The matter name is your first name then estate planning (i.e. Hawkins - estate planning)
• Same attorney designation and permissions
• No related contacts
• Billing Preference is Flat Fee - you pick the amount
• No related contacts
• Billing Preference is Flat Fee - you pick the amount
