• Media Counseling Session Analysis: Have students select and view a TV- or movie-based counseling session (e.g. a scene from Good Will Hunting or the series In Treatment). Analyze the communication styles of both the counselor and client. What do they notice about physical distance and spacing, paralanguage, and verbal versus nonverbal communications? What techniques are being used, how might they be culture bound, and how might a client with a culture-bound communication style, which differs from that of the counselor/therapist, respond to these utilized techniques?
