Media literacy refers to the ability to discern the messages conveyed by the mass media (including print ads, TV commercials, news reports, movies, TV shows, and web sites), to identify the underlying assumptions those messages reveal, and to understand the goals of the media producers. It requires critical thinking skills to uncover the underlying intent of media messages and to expose efforts to influence our conscious or unconscious choices and beliefs. For this discussion, select from any media listed above and view or read the media. Carefully note the following:

1. What feelings does the commercial, news report, or Web site try to create in you?
2. What beliefs does it assume you have?
3. What critical thinking skills did you use to determine this?

2. Throughout life we come to a fork in the road to determine which pathway we will choose? Some can be different experiences both positive and negative. Why is critical thinking so important? 5. Communication apprehension is often rated as a top fear factor for students and employees. College will provide you with many opportunities to practice speaking in front of a group, and the chance to observe many people giving speeches. Take this opportunity to think about the skills of great speakers. What traits do you find most effective in a public speaker? How can you emulate these traits when you are making your own presentations? You might want to view a presentation by a public figure to give you some ideas.

A good portion of its research is related to "lifestyle modification."  You can take steps to promote a healthy body, just as you enrolled in higher education to improve your mind.
