Module 1: Points of View Research Proposal

Background

What is a research proposal? The goal of a research proposal is twofold: to present and justify the need to study a research problem, and to show the practical ways in which the proposed study should be conducted (USC, 2021). The research proposal presents the topic, areas of focus, a clear indication of how you will conduct your research, and the limitations or obstacles you expect to encounter. Remember, writing the research proposal is a way to make sure you are prepared to write the final research paper. So, it is important to have a workable topic that includes different points of view.

Directions

In your research proposal, you will answer the questions underneath each heading in as much detail as possiblethe more detail you include, the better. This research proposal simply shows that you are thinking about the research paper you will complete. On your document, include each of the sections below and be sure to bold each heading.

Introduction: Discuss the topic you chose to focus on. Please include how you chose this topic from the wide variety available to you and why you chose the points of view you did.

Statements of Focus:Here, you can discuss the point of view in more detail. What claims will you make to back up this point of view? Identify what knowledge will be gained from researching this topic to your career and future goals. Describe why your goals are important to you and why you want to know more about them.

Methods: Define the types of sources you will seek when gathering information on this topic. While web sources are an excellent place to get started and can be used, you will need to find references that go further in-depth using peer reviewed journals, scholarly articles, and verified sources.

Limitations: What obstacles do you anticipate facing while researching your topic?

Conclusion: Based on your research, are your points of view valid? What evidence did you find most compelling, or what helped you make your final decision? How has researching this subject made you feel about the future of this topic? How can other people use this information for their benefit?
