MS PROJECT ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Assume that your 4KF3 course is a project. Using the course outline as a guide, create a project in MS
Project that maps out all the tasks, deliverables, due dates and resources you need in order to be
successful as possible in the course. When done, submit your MS Project file to Avenue under
Assessments-> Assignments-> MS Project Assignment.
Your project should be organized in a way to show 5 broad deliverables:
1) Classes (involve attending synchronous sessions, and asynchronous sessions)
2) Online discussions, chapter readings, and chapter exercises
3) MS Project Assignment (involves becoming familiar with the software and doing the assignment)
4) Final Exam (involves studying for and writing the test)
5) Term Project (involves working in groups, dividing the work for the project among group
members, conducting the project, presenting the project and writing up supplementary
documents, etc. The work for the term project should align with the work you described in your
term project contract).
You should plan the project with less than 50 activities.
You project should provide:
1) A working calendar for the project where you change the default working days set up in MS
Project (i.e., Monday Friday, 8 am 5 pm) so that resources on the project are scheduled to
work some weekends and some evenings. (5 marks)
You should:
Create a new project calendar (e.g., working days, non-working days, study week,
and holidays)
Set the created calendar as the project calendar
2) A Gantt chart for the project showing deliverables and their tasks. The chart should show the
following information in column format: task id, task name, duration, start date, finish date, and
predecessor information. The graphical part of the Gantt chart should display the whole
duration of the project, as well as the resource(s) assigned to each task and sub-task. (18 marks)
You should:
Assign a numeric code to project tasks
Label tasks in the form of a verb followed by a noun (e.g., Attend Lecture #1)
Identify and show the major streams or task groupings
Assign durations, and predecessors for each task
Ensure dates for tasks correspond to dates stated in the course outline
Make sure tasks have durations (i.e., tasks should not be events points in time)
Create two milestones for major events such as Project Group Finalized
Handle minor events (e.g.,hand in an assignment) in the form of notes (include at
least 2 notes)

Ensure you have a project summary task that shows the entire project duration,
start, and finish
Assign resources to each task (Use a resource sheet where you and each member of
your Term Project group is a resource)
3) A network diagram that shows the projects tasks. Your chart should clearly identify the critical
path and have a correct logic. (7 Marks)
Ensure the critical path of the project is evident and has a correct logic (i.e. starts
from beginning of the project and continues to the end)
Ensure that the network diagram has a correct logic (i.e. all tasks are related, no
hanging task, and a logical critical path)
