Multimodal transport systems involve transporting goods using more than one mode of transport such as a combination of truck, airplane or ship. Within the freight and warehousing sector multi- modal transportation plays a significant role. In Bahrain many freight and warehousing companies, by necessity, use multi-modal transportation, particularly those involved in importing or exporting. The various transportation modes may be provided by one or more providers or may be facilitated through "in- house" resources. Keitai Industries is a Japanese company that manufactures and sells in car entertainment systems such as Sat-Nav, DVD and Touch Screens in Eastern Europe and is planning to set up a distribution business in Bahrain. Keitai is importing from its manufacturing plant near Prague in the Czech Republic, for re-sale in the Middle East. The company has no experience in multi-modal transportation as all sales in Europe are delivered solely by truck.
