Multiparty Negotiation This is a group assignment. If you prefer to complete it as an individual, please discuss it with the instructor. In this assignment, you and your group will be simulating a negotiation in a role-play exercise. You will be taking the role of one of several business partners who are negotiating how to proceed after serious acrimony develops between two of the business partners. Each business partner (played by a member of your group) has a different idea as to how to proceed; some seek dissolution of the business, and some seek a continuation.Your overall task is to negotiate a solution (keeping in mind the personal/communication issues) and report on the outcome of your negotiations.Important Note: Please read the detailed assignment instructions below, and complete your assignment accordingly.Assignment GradingThis assignment counts for 20% of your final course grade. It is graded according to this rubric.Detailed InstructionsYou will be role-playing one of 3 or 4 business partners (depending on how many members are in your group) who run a gym/spa named NOTSOLO in Edmonton. The business has been open for 5 years. Serious acrimony has developed between two of the business partners; matters have devolved such that the partners cannot meet to make major business decisions. The budget has been impacted and operational matters are stalled.Partner 1 is a fitness trainer and former martial arts champion who has 15 years of experience as a trainer. Partner 1 has developed serious doubts about the Spa side of the business. Specifically, Partner 1 is concerned that Partner 3 is committing fraud; the profit reported by the spa side of the business appears to be narrower than the industry standard despite what appears to be a robust clientele. Partner 1 specifically suspects Partner 3 because of several errors in the last two years in Partner 3's reporting. Partner 1 would like the gym side of the business to separate from the spa side of the business.Partner 2 is a yoga instructor. Partner 2's primary contribution to NOTSOLO is their business acumen and ability to bring in customers and clientele to both parts of the business. Partner 2 is dedicated to the NOTSOLO brand, and would like the business to continue operating.Partner 3 is a registered massage therapist who has become increasingly dissatisfied with participating in the operations aspect of the business. Partner 3 is exhausted from several verbal altercations with Partner 1, and would like the business to dissolve. Although the spa does well, Partner 3 spends more time than ideal on reporting and accounting. Partner 3 would like to spend more time with clients, and less time (no time!) in meetings.Partner 4 is an esthetician and stylist. Partner 4 would like to break off this branch of the business, but is content with remaining partnered with NOTSOLO provided that the other partners are dedicated to growing Partner 4's aspect of the business. Partner 4 may be open to buying out another partner's share of the business, or to the other partners buying out Partner 4's share if the price is right.1.Set an agenda for a negotiation between the partners. Include process decisions in the agenda. Type this agenda in a Microsoft Word document.2.Explicitly appoint task and relationship roles to each of the partners. Include these roles in your Microsoft Word document.3.Each partner should prepare and present an opening statement and generate 1-3 options. Include a typed version of each in your Microsoft Word document.4.Conduct your negotiation meeting in person or via videoconferencing (Skype, Google Hangouts, etc). During the negotiation meeting, attempt to come up with a resolution, as well as steps to implement your resolution. Create a report regarding your negotiation outcome and the next steps for the business as the final component of your Microsoft Word document.
