Question: My current problem statement is that it is not known if the enduring impact of continuous restraint and seclusion of students in an educational environment
My current problem statement is that it is not known if the enduring impact of continuous restraint and seclusion of students in an educational environment has on their educational outcome and the extent to which these consequences influence students' social and emotional development.
The degree to which my proposed problem statement has changed is largely in part through conversations I've had within this class. Initially, my focus was on researching the psychological effects of continuous restraint and seclusion of students in an educational environment. However, through guidance and reflection, I've had to change my thoughts in looking at educational outcomes. Currently, I've been reflecting, researching, and redefining what educational outcomes will be within my proposed research, and while I am not anywhere near defining what that might mean and how I can quantitative that in terms of data, I believe that I am on a better track in being able to narrow down my research based on this change.
In the context of my research on the enduring consequences of continuous restraint and seclusion on students' long-term educational outcomes, a quantitative methodology will potentially allow me to encompass the collection and analysis of numerical data to assess my research in prevalence, patterns, and statistical correlations. Mohajan, (2020) expressed how the quantitative methodology is a valuable approach for quantifying attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and defined variables, allowing the generalization of results from a broader sample population through the generation of numerical data.
The concepts I have learned in this class have strengthened my decision to use quantitative methodology and not qualitative, in understanding how data, especially archived data can support me in looking at trends across longer periods. Another key aspect that I have learned during this class is a strong desire to be reflective in determining what it is I am researching and developing my ideas into completely re-searchable topics. how to strengthen the justifications of their proposed methodologies.
