My Project on Digital rhetoric

I Create a lesson.

Final Project Step 3 - First Draft

The first draft will give you a chance to get some feedback on your project as you continue developing your work.

This first draft does not need to be a complete draft. Instead, it just needs to be complete enough to get useful feedback. Here are some flexible guidelines for what you might want to create for your first draft:

  • If you're creating a children's book, create about 3 pages of your book and then outline the rest of it. Use the first three pages to show your characters, visuals, and story set-up.
  • If you're creating a lesson plan, develop one activity fully and then outline the rest of the activities.
  • If you're creating a video, make a detailed outline of your script. Include your main points and some of the quotes you might want to use from sources. Also include a few examples of your visuals.
  • If you're creating a journal article, write your first 3 pages and outline the rest of the article.

You can conceptualize this draft as a Minimum Viable Product (Links to an external site.). In other words, what are the key features, interactions, and information that you need to get feedback on? Focus on those elements and develop them far enough to get good feedback.

In general, try to find the right balance in your drafts of having enough content to get useful feedback while not having too much finalized so that it's hard to revise based on that feedback. (As an example of the latter, I've had some students submit complete videos and then need to re-record them based on the feedback.)
