My research paper topic is how aviation safety has improved due to different accidents and organizations that shaped the industry. Throughout my research, I have read many articles on both the qualitative and quantitative sides of data analysis. While some of the articles focus specifically on one or the other, many combine the two ideas and discuss the numbers concerning different relationships. Because of this, I have decided to focus more on the qualitative side of data analysis, using the relationships to decipher how we obtained the numbers.

Since my topic is about the relationship between the overseeing organizations and specific aviation accidents concerning safety in the industry, qualitative seemed like the right choice. When looking at a specific accident, it is difficult to give a quantitative response to how many similar accidents have been prevented due to the findings and changes made after the fact. It is much easier to show a relationship between what caused the accident, and how many fewer accidents happened with similar causes. When looking at NASA's aviation safety reporting system, qualitative data analysis can be used to determine the relationship between incidents and causal factors (Vempati et al., 2023). This data allows companies and regulating agencies to determine deficiencies during flight and gives them the ability to make changes to training programs or regulations to target these specific areas.

As we all know in the aviation industry, training standards and regulations are constantly changing. Throughout history, after an aviation accident, organizations would determine what went wrong by looking specifically at the problem to change the standards so it does not happen again. Using qualitative analysis, we can change the ideas surrounding accidents; instead of focusing on what someone failed to do, we can try and understand why that individual performed those actions (Karanikas et al., 2020). This allows for a more thorough investigation of the accident, giving the regulating agency a better understanding of the root cause to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Accident investigation is not an easy task, but it is important in progressing the safety of the aviation industry. Each accident is heartbreaking, leaving gaps in many families, and people wonder why God is punishing them. "My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in" (New International Version, 1978/2011, Proverbs 3:11-12).Though we may feel betrayed by God when an accident happens, we must remember that God loves us and wants us to grow as a community to make it a safer place for all.As long as we learn from the mistakes of the past, we will do right by God, when we start to forget, things will become worse and we will lose sight of what God is trying to teach us.
