Hello everyone,

My name is Deven and I am from a small town in central Oklahoma. I started as a computer science major but after the Kronos ransomware attack that disabled employer timekeeping systems (including the one I work for) around the United States a little over a year ago, I decided to switch to cyber security. I was recently promoted to administrative assistant and payroll manager for the custodial contractor for the local school district, prior to which I worked as a custodian for nearly seven years.

One emerging technology that I have personally come in contact with since obtaining the new position is multi-factor authentication (MFA). This technology is not new, and I have utilized MFA to secure my e-mail accounts for quite some time now. This was however the first time that I have seen the technology utilized in the workforce. I personally have to use the authentication application in combination with my corporate username and password in order to access any of the software to perform my day-to-day functions. That being said, I certainly can see weaknesses if policies and procedures regarding the storing of passwords and security on the device used for authentication are lax, vague, or nonexistent in a worst-case scenario.

While this technology is not necessarily new, it is fascinating to think about how it can and will evolve into a more secure platform over the next few decades.
