The important concept in corrective actions is having a realistic set of predetermined tolerance levels.Corrective action may not always need to occur if something drops below the performance standard and in some cases corrective action should always take place. An example of when corrective action should always take place is at a nuclear power plant. Some measures that could exist could be cooling tank temperatures, air quality measures, or pressure level in a tank. If either of these metrics were to fall below the predetermined standards a massive explosion or significant harm could befall someone at the plant or surrounding area.Using the same example corrective action may need to take place in the nuclear plant even if performance meets or exceeds the predetermined standard. This is because not every predetermined standard is correct or optimal due to human error. For example, the nuclear plant could deem 65 degrees as the highest temp a cooling tank can reach before intervention needs to take place.If their tank consistently is at 64 or 65 degrees everyday when ideally it should be at 58 degrees then that could potentially indicate something is wrong with the cooling system and cause damage at the plant.
