Creating a New Database -

As a way to pay for college, a good friend of yours started cutting lawns for his neighbors and family. Because he does such a good job, his neighbors and family has been referring him to their friends and the business has grown. Recently your friend took on a condominium complex and has been asked to not only cut the lawn but trim it, weed and plant flower beds, trim bushes, plant bushes, and trees, rake leaves and plow the snow in the winter. Because of the increase in business, your friend had to hire additional help. Additionally, your friend has noticed that his current method of keeping track of his revenues and expenses is not adequate. He therefore, approaches you for some help. On a rather cool April afternoon, you and your friend meet to discuss his database needs. He brings with him printed out copies of various Excel spreadsheets, forms, invoices, and a few reports. He hands you two example invoices.

He mentions during your meeting how long it takes for him to get ready for his meeting with his tax accountant. Further, he mentions how he would like to keep better track of which employee goes out on which jobs and what specifically they did at that job. An employee can complete many tasks on a job and a task can be completed by many employees. You notice that there is an employee number on the invoice. You ask your friend what this means. In other words, does this employee go out on the job or just process the invoice. Your friend tells you that this person only fills out the job order when someone wants something done. This person may or may not actually go out on a job. You finish your meeting with your friend and let him know that you will work up a draft ERD and will be in contact with him soon.

Create an ERD--

After reading this case, analyze the two invoices from Larrys Landscaping. Based upon what was mentioned in the case and the invoices, construct an ERD that includes properly formed entities, attributes, and relationships. Do not worry about data types at this time.
