Session 5 Final Presentation

You are the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization. At the next board meeting you will be introducing three new members to the Board of Directors. To help them prepare for the roles, you are to create a PowerPoint presentation in which you will cover their major responsibilities. Explain these responsibilities, their importance to the organization, and why the new board members need to take these responsibilities very seriously.

In your presentation, at a minimum, include the following:

• Explain the difference between a nonprofit organization and a tax-exempt organization addressing IRS requirements for acquiring and maintaining a 501 (c)(3) status.
• Distinguish the role of a board member as opposed to an officer in the organization including their fiduciary responsibilities.
• Review the most important policies of a nonprofit organization to ensure honesty, security, and financial transparency.
• You should provide information about:
  • Board member responsibilities
  • Conflict of interest
  • Rules of law covering nonprofit organizations
• What other things would you include in a board orientation? (Consider items which you will not have because you do not have an actual nonprofit organization such as financial statements and bylaws)

Your presentation must be:

• 12 to 15 slides in length (not including the cover and reference slides).
• Written using APA format to include:
• A cover slide.
• An APA approved font, double spaced.
• In-text citations to support main points.
• Presentation notes: Create notes in the notes section for each slide to support the slide content.
• A reference slide with full APA references for each in-text citation used for support.
