NSTRUCTION: Choose and Answer ONE Question ONLY.
Assignment: Case Study: Siti vs Zana Question
Siti and her supervisor had just returned from a colleagues mother's funeral when she came to a note on her desk.
Siti
Encik Johan took your files on the Hulu Langat project from behind your table.
Zana.
Siti was upset as she felt that she was away for two hours and Zana should have sent her a message or called her to inform her of the matter. Siti felt that Zana was encroaching in her workspace. Kak Ziana, who sat next to her cubicle, told her Zana was crouching and searching under her desk to search for the wanted files. Siti had spread the files at a desk behind her to reorganize them. Siti felt she had to let Zana know that she is not happy with the situation. Siti then sent Zana a WhatsApp message.
You could have waited for me or messaged me It is just courtesy.
Siti then instantly received a reply from Zana.
It is the order of the boss, I shall tell him that you have said the above.
Zana was not done with Siti since Siti remained quiet and proceeded to bombard her WhatsApp with the following messages.
If you have any grievances please say it to Encik Johan. I only follow orders. I also think you are rude to send me such message. I dont think I was rude, I left a note on your table.
Siti remained quiet and carried on with the rest of her work. However, within one hour of receiving Zanas last Whatsapp message, Siti received an email from Zana, cced to Encik Johan. Sitis superior, Encik Ghazali, was not cced in the email. The email started with a heading in all caps.
PLEASE DON'T BE RUDE
Siti, I was surprised and upset to receive such an uncalledfor text message from you telling me that I should at least waited or messaged you before taking the Hulu Langat files while you were away. Please remember that I have left a note on your table to say that Encik Johan has asked for the files, I think I was courteous enough to do so Besides that, these files belong to the company and we have not taken any personal files of yours that we should wait to get your permission.
Zana
This was not the first time Siti encountered such situations with Zana. Zana was known to have a short fuse and passiveaggressive in carrying out her work. Zana is actually well off and holds an administrative assistant post to while away her time, which explains why Zana is not afraid to throw her weight around even to those who hold higher posts than her.
Question:
What was the reason for Siti's upset upon finding out that Zana had taken her files?
What was Zana's justification for taking the files without informing Siti?
How did Zana react to Siti's message expressing her dissatisfaction?
What was the content of the email that Zana sent to Siti and copied to Encik Johan?
What do you think are some possible ways that Siti can handle the situation with Zana going forward?
Assignment: Case Study Conflict at the Workplace Question
Shirah and Jamil both work for a software development company. The manager, Lee Ming of the new product division was originally the leader of the project team for which she interviewed and hired Jamil. Shirah, another project team member, also interviewed Jamil but strongly opposed hiring him for the project because she thought he was not competent to do the job.
Seven months after Jamil was hired, Lee Ming left the project to start her own company and recommended to the General Manager, that Jamil and Shirah serve as joint project leaders. Shirah agreed reluctantly with the stipulation that it be made clear she was not working for Jamil. The General Manager consented that Shirah and Jamil were to share the project leadership.
Within a month Shirah was angry because Jamil was representing himself to others as the leader of the entire project and giving the impression that Shirah was working for him. Now Shirah and Jamil are meeting with the General Manager to see if can resolve the conflict between them.
Shirah says: "Right after the joint leadership arrangement was reached, Jamil called a meeting of the project team without even consulting me about the time or content. He just told me when it was being held and said I should be there. At the meeting, Jamil reviewed everyone's duties line by line, including mine, treating me as just another team member working for him. He sends out letters and signs himself as project director, which obviously implies to others that I am working for him."
Jamil says: "Shirah is all hung up with feelings of power and titles. Just because I sign myself as project director doesn't mean she is working for me I don't see anything to get excited about. What difference does it make? She is too sensitive about everything. I call a meeting and right away she thinks Im trying to run everything. Shirah has other things to do other projects to run, so she doesn't pay too much attention
