Objective: Analyze effective quantitative research strategies to ensure data integrity and veracity. Review the following case study:

  • Abraham Lincoln once said that 99.9% of Internet sources are biased. Jocularity aside, you all probably note a couple things right away with this statement. First, hopefully you all realized that Honest Abe and the Internet did not exist within the same time frame. Secondly, hopefully the 99.9% statistic without a credible supporting citation raises a red flag. We all likely know that we live in an era whereby statistics and information is readily available. Unfortunately, most of this is biased and not reliable. No matter your proclivities for or against the "fake news" moniker, there is an at least a modicum of truth in label. Even if the statistic is accurate, there are a lot of variables affecting integrity and veracity. For instance, who conducted the poll? Who was involved in the poll? What was the time frame? What was the research question? Were the statistics properly applied? Were both sides fairly presented? There are many more questions that one could ask.
• Research the concepts of data integrity, data accuracy, and real-time integration of data.
• Be sure to fully support your assertions with credible and scholarly research.
• Respond to the following:
  • Why are previously discussed variables important to accuracy?
  • Why should we take great care in what we use in terms of data?
  • Find one modern (within last 10 years) article that uses a statistic.
    • Discuss the merits of this statistic
      • Was this statistic used correctly?
      • Explain why or why not.
    • Do not use anything relating to the current president or prior president.
  • Include at least 6 credible sources. At least two of these sources must be scholarly peer-reviewed articles.
