[Ohm's Law]

LAB REPORT (PHYSICS)

GLOBAL CONTEXT: Identities and relationships

ATL SKILL(S): Communications, Social, Self-management, Research, and Thinking.

Task:You will be given aDC Power supply, 1k resistor, connecting wires, ammeter, voltmeter, switch, and a variable resistor (rheostat). With your lab partners, design an experiment to test the validity of Ohm's law. Plan a method and write a detailed hypothesis explaining your ideas.

Before collecting your data, you should:

state the problem you will investigate

write a testable hypothesis (you should say how the factor you are investigating will affect the measurements and explain why you have made that prediction)

list all of the variables

After collecting your data and displaying it in a table and a graph you should evaluate the validity and reliability of the method:

Did the method you followed allow you to collect data you thought could be trusted?

Was your hypothesis correct?

What improvements would you make in order to improve the experiment if you did it again?

Aim :

* To test the validity of ohms law.

* To verify Ohm's Law and experimentally, verify the relationship between current, voltage and resistance in a circuit.

Variables:

Independent ????

Dependent How will I measure the dependent variable ????

Controlled ?????

Hypothesis ????

Materials : (Apparatus list with uncertainties included and labeled diagram of the final setup)

DC power supply, resistor, connecting wire, ammeter, voltmeter, switch, andRheostat

Method :(detailed list with of instructions to follow and show control of all variables listed above ) ????

Procedure

  1. Connect the circuit shown below using a fixed resistance R.
  2. Set the value of electromotive force into a certain voltage (electromotive force).
  3. You can get different readings of the current I and voltage V by varying the battery source.
  4. Record the value of the current through the resistance and the voltage across it.
  5. Repeat step 3 to get different readings.
  6. Record the data in Table
  7. Repeat the previous steps for another value of the resistance. Record the data.

Results Table : (qualitative & quantitativedata with uncertainties in organized headed tables)

I 0 0.56 0.15 0.07
V 0 5.38 1.39 0.696

Analysis of Data : (present calculations, graphical representation of calculated / raw data and

analysis with the scientific support of the data) ?????

Conclusion: (relate your findings back to your aim and hypothesis, restate your trend/findings and

what this means in terms of your investigation) ??????

Evaluation :

Identify weaknesses in the procedure or experimental errorsthat make the results

unreliable or less precise, ways to extend this further in the future. ????

Discuss how these weaknesses affected your data and results. ????

Suggest changes to the procedure such that these errors are avoided if the experiment is repeated. ?????
