A cosmetic includes "any substance or mixture of substances, manufactured, sold or represented for use in cleansing, improving or altering the complexion, skin, hair or teeth and includes deodorants and perfumes."

I want you to find a cosmetic product in your bathroom or bedroom. Some products for consideration:

Skin care products - moisturizers, anti-aging products, tanning, sunblock, body wash, hand soaps, and scrubs... Hair care products - shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, styling and gels... Personal care products - tooth paste, mouthwash, whitening products, deodorants and anti-perspirants... Cosmetics - foundation, lip stick, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, and nail polish... Fragrances - cologne, perfume, body splashes and sprays... This is a small list, but you get the idea!

Review the materials in Week 8 (weekly overview and chapter materials) and analyze the product's label. Answer the following questions:

Based on labelling requirements, is there anything missing? Take a look at Week 8's 'Chapter 11 overview' on wording and making claims. Does the product you've shared with the class have only non-therapeutic claims or are there therapeutic/health claims as well? Refer to the Guidelines for the Nonprescription and Cosmetic Industry Regarding Non-therapeutic Advertising and Labelling Claims. Based on the guidelines, do you think your product is a cosmetic, or do you think it is more of a drug that Health Canada (HC) would regulate? Please include a photo or video of yourself with the product in your post.
