The study which was qualitative in nature was based on the experience of a public enterprise in a selected southern African country. The company has a staff establishment of 350. A total of 80 employees were selected for the study ensuring that each level has an equal chance of being represented. Data gathering comprised the use of closed questionnaires and structured interviews for primary data. Data was analysed using simple descriptive statistics. Findings reveal that the company, which has been experiencing various performance problems for over a decade, has suffered the consequence of delays in employees' salary payments, acute shortages of tools or resources to do their work, poor labour relations and the increasing costs of living that warrant the need to generate an extra income to sustain an average family among others. Resultantly, employees have ended up giving secondary priority to the organisation, opting to use company resources to satisfy personal goals and survive. The survival strategies adopted by employees drain the entity's depreciating resources. Whilst employees use these strategies in subtle and unobservable ways to evade immediate management artion it ie armed here that mananement met act not only to address organisation, opting to use company resources to satisfy personal goals and survive.
