On June 10th,2025 ICE raided a meat packing plant in Omaha, Nebraska. The plant was Glenn Valley Foods, which supplies beef, chicken and turkey to grocery stores nation wide. There was no warning of the raid.
Estefania Favila, a supervisor at Glenn Valley Foods, said she was in a morning meeting when masked ICE agents in SWAT gear began banging on the plants doors and yelling, Homeland Security!
They just came in and said that it was a raid and we had to get everybody out of production, Favila said. The President of the company told the ICE agents that they use the government's E-Verify system and all employees are legal. The ICE agent said the "system is broken"
The raid came not with a criminal warrant but with a civil warrant concerning forged documents. All of the employees with out proof of immigration status had their legs and feet zip tied and taken to a bus with blacked out windows. Without hearings some were deported other are held in detention centers both in Missouri and outside Missouri. Family members of detainees would like to bring their immigration documents to them but contact has been prevented.
Local government officials spoke with outrage at the event with Republican Congressman, Don Bacon, stating "ICE verified that Glen Valley Foods complied with E-Verify 100% and is a victim in this as well.
Protestors arrived at the scene and and ICE vehicle sped up and drove at a protestor. Protestors through rocks at the ICE vehicles.
Glenn Valley is now down to 20% of production. The day after the raid they closed as other workers were afraid to go to work for fear of another raid.
The local library and community college closed out of fear of a raid. Businesses in the area closed.
Homeland Security has stated that 76 of the detained workers had forged social security cards. A court hearing has not confirmed this.
Glenn Valley is now concerned that it will face civil charges for hiring undocumented workers and its managers could face criminal charges.
