Only need help with question c and d.Thank you.
A turbine is to be installed in a creek where it is possible obtain a head of 2m above the exit to the turbine. The creek is estimated to have a flow rate of 0.2m3s-1. Calculate the power output of the turbine assuming no losses (including no friction losses), using a density of water of 1000kgm-3 and an exit velocity from the turbine of 1.6ms-1. You must draw a fully labelled sketch diagram as part of your answer. (Answer =3.7k)
(c) Calculate the diameter of the channel receiving the water, i.e. after the turbine, assuming that it has a square cross-section to the water flow.
(d) Different designs are to be considered for the turbine system and one possibility is to split the flow in the creek into two equal-flow streams, and route one of the streams (containing a mesh to protect the turbine system) through a pipe ending in a nozzle 8cm in diameter, with the jet impacting on turbine buckets (i.e. cups designed to reverse the impinging flow). Draw a sketch diagram of this arrangement, appropriate for a momentum calculation, and calculate the maximum reaction force on a turbine bucket (i.e. ignore the rotation of the bucket). Do start your analysis with the usual momentum equation and explain why you ignore any of its terms in this analysis.
