The Philosophical Viewpoints

Utilitarian approach: A source of ethical standards that says when choosing one ethical action over another, we should select the one that does the most good and least harm.

Rights approach: A source of ethical standards that says we look at how our actions will affect the rights of those around us$.$

Common good approach: A source of ethical standards that says when making ethical decisions, we should try to benefit the community as a whole.

Virtue approach: A source of ethical standards that looks at desirable qualities and sa$$s we should act to obtain our highest potential.

Fairness approach: A source of ethical standards that says Ethical actions treat all $($human $)$ beings equally $-$or if unequally, then fairly based on some standard that is defensible. We are learning that animals are gaining standing in the law. Rawls argues for protecting those most in need.
