OPERANDs are "things" that the OPCODE uses to perform a task. For instance, an ADD OPCODE may have as its OPERANDS:

where the result of the ADD $($the sum$)$ will be stored,

one of the values that will be added $($the addend$),$ and

the second addend.

Not all OPCODEs will have these three OPERANDs. Some may have more, others may have less.
