OPERATIONS USING MEASUREMENTS

Multiplication$/$division of measurements: The final answer should have as many sig figs as the measurement used in the calculations with the fewest sig figs.

Addition$/$subtraction of measurements: The final answer must have as many decimal places as the measurement used in the calculation with the least number of decimal places.

RULES FOR ROUNDING

If the first digit to be dropped is less than $5,$ then we drop it and all digits following it with no change to the last retained digit.

If the first digit to be dropped is $5$ or higher, then we drop it and all digits that follow it and increase the value of the last retained digit by $1.$

SCIENTIFIC NOTATION $a{10}^b$

$(a{10}^y)(b{10}^z)=a*b{10}^{(y+z)}$

$\frac{(a{10}^y)}{(b{10}^z)}=\frac{a}{b}{10}^{(y-z)}$
