Relevant and Worthy Dissertation Topics

Why it is so difficult to choose a dissertation topic and some factors that could be related. This week, I would like to examine how to determine how a topic is relevant and worthy. Remember, for a topic to be relevant it must directly relate to your degree area. For example, if you are pursuing a Ed.D. in Organizational leadership, you must pick a topic that will add to the field of education as it relates to leadership organizational development.

To be considered worthy of research, a topic must:

Demonstrate originality and significance

Be grounded in the existing body of literature Increase understanding of a specific problem or issue

Add to the overall body of knowledge

Contribute to the field of practice

Be sure to build some time into your schedule each week to think about dissertation.
