The discussion topic below concerns the issue of conformity in teams and groups. Although group cohesion is important for effective team performance, it is problematic when group members just conform to others for no valid reason. Such behaviour sometimes defeats the very purpose of teams which is to solve complex problems by taking advantage of a wide variety of views, opinions and skills. Furthermore, it would be difficult for an organization to initiate and implement successful change and innovation when everyone just tends to conform to the current norms and practices of that organization.

Why do some people tend to conform? Do you personally sometimes conform to$\text{'}$ your group's norms and opinions. Why?

Assume you are managing a team on an important project and you notice that some members, although really smart and skilled, tend to speak up and just conform to other members in the group. What can you do to avoid this conformity issue?
