Overview

Once a project's charter is signed off and and the Work Breakdown Structure has been created, the project manager must put together plans to accomplish all the work required to complete the project. This includes creating a detailed chart or diagram that shows how all the project's tasks are related. This chart or diagram will become the project's schedule when it is fully refined.

Instructions

Use the CCCOnline Library, or any other credible sources you may locate on the World Wide Web to find information on formulating a project schedule. In your research paper, provide an analysis of how project scheduling is conducted, and consider the following points:

• Describe the differences between the task relationship types: finish to start, start to start, start to finish, finish to finish.
• For each type, give an example of two tasks that reflect that kind of relationship.
• Which is the most common type of relationship, and why?
• While you can pretty much tell which tasks must be done before others can proceed, what must a project manager do before he or she can determine the length of time each task should take?
• Just because two or three tasks can be done in parallel (at the same time), it isn't always a good idea. Why might that be so?
