This exercise is important because, as a manager, it is important that you engage in ethical and socially responsible behavior. Ethics is defined as the moral principles that define a person's behavior of right and wrong. In the United States, with so many diverse cultures, it is oftentimes difficult to identify a common standard of ethical behavior. However, most societies do acknowledge similar basic moral values of right and wrong: honesty, respect for others, self$-$control, and unselfishness are right; cheating, unkindness, or violations of company policies are wrong.

In addition to conducting business in an ethical manner, businesses have other responsibilities commonly known as corporate social responsibility $($CSR$).$ CSR functions as a self$-$regulatory system whereby a company monitors and ensures active compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards, and international norms. Extending beyond making profits, businesses have a corporate social responsibility to their customers, their employees, their investors, their suppliers, the environment, and the communities in which they serve. Today, through the use of sticial audits, society is demanding businesses implement socially responsible and respon$$ive programs.

The goal of this exercise is to better help you understand ethical and socially responsible practices.
