When collecting external data to use in your research, it is important to ensure its quality. Based on the readings, what techniques can be used to accomplish this?

When evaluating external datasets what are some 'red flags' that you should watch out for? Explain specific examples from the readings.

[PART 2] Open Data

Have you ever heard of or used Open Data before? Have you ever participated in an event that used Open Date (e.g. hack-a-thon)?

In general, what type of data do you think governments should be releasing as open data? Explain in detail your thoughts about what data should the public have the right to see and access? Keep in mind that data is different than information. Please focus your answer on raw data, not information.

Making data available is important, but the format of that data is also important. Explain in detail the concept machine readable data and describe at least 2 examples of machine readable formats (hint: include a description of CSV as one of your examples and try researching another machine readable format).
