Part 1: Initial Post Instructions

Go through step by step and complete ALL of the following tasks for full points. Do not skip any of the searches. Each search is worth points in this assignment. Take notes of your search results and answer ALL the questions as directed below:

1. Complete all these steps listed and include the search information in your paragraphs in #6 below for full points: Review the Writing Assignment Guidelines Module.
2. Read through the Writing Assignment. Consider which hip hop artist/group you might choose from the list to do your research. Next, consider the three questions/prompts in the assignment and the information you will need to learn about your artist such as: how they got started in music, their early career, who or what were their influences, career achievements and awards, significant contributions to hip hop music, legacy, etc.
3. Visit the AVC EBSCO search and be prepared to take detailed notes of your search results to include in your paragraphs in #6 below. Complete a search using the artist's name and evaluate the number and quality of resources available. Relevant, biographical sources found through EBSCO are credible and do not need to be approved by the instructor.
   • Skim through and look for biographical encyclopedia type sources or news or magazine articles or interviews to see if they contain information that is required for your research and take note of the source and article titles.
   • Do not choose obscure journals that do not contain relevant biographical content. Search for sources that have relevant content to answer the questions. You may need to search several different artists to find relevant sources.
   • Make sure you find at least one usable article on the artist you are considering.
   • Don't forget to take notes of your searches and results, you will write about them in your paragraphs in #6 below.
4. Review the list of pre-approved websites in the guidelines and complete a search using the artist's name on one or more of the websites until you find usable information about your artist. Again, take note of which websites you searched and your results to include in your paragraphs in #6.
5. Do a Google search on your potential artist and look for additional sources such as non-approved websites that provide credible information, documentaries, interviews, interview videos on YouTube, obituaries etc... Again, take notes of the specific sources you find to include in your paragraphs in #6 below.
6. WRITE 150 words minimum about your searches. Remember, the above tasks are not optional and each one is worth points. In your own words, discuss your search results for credible sources. Write in paragraphs using complete sentences and address the questions below. Do not copy and paste the questions in your initial post. Include in your paragraphs:
   • Which of the listed hip hop artist(s) or group are you considering for your Writing Assignment?
   • Have you used EBSCO before? Tell us about your EBSCO search for relevant biographical encyclopedia type sources or news or magazine articles/interviews and the results. Name the article or interview that you found information you may use for your research to complete the assignment.
   • Which websites on the approved website list did you search and which websites did you find information about your potential artist?
   • Which credible sources did you find in your Google search results that you are considering to request approval for?
   • Based on your search results, did this assignment help you to narrow down your artist/group choice for the Writing Assignment? Explain why or why not.
   • Did you have difficulty finding enough sources or was it relatively easy?
   • Do you have any questions about this assignment?
