TARGET POPULATION AND SAMPLE
The target population is and comprises of managers, radio brand specialists,
digital assistants, radio producers, marketing specialists, technicians, radio
listeners and presenters. A sample of participants will be selected.
The target population for our research will be key stakeholders from SABC's
Public Broadcaster Radio Division in Johannesburg. This includes individuals who
have direct involvement and expertise in revenue generation strategies and
operations within the division.
We have selected this specific population because they possess valuable insights
and firsthand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities related to revenue
generation in the context of digital platforms. Their experiences and perspectives
will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of the topic and help us
uncover unique insights that can inform decisionmaking processes.
The sample size for our research will be determined based on the principle of
data saturation, which means we will continue conducting interviews until we
reach a point where new information and insights are no longer emerging. This
ensures that we gather a sufficient amount of data to address our research
objectives and achieve a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
By focusing on key stakeholders from SABC's Public Broadcaster Radio Division,
we aim to capture diverse perspectives and experiences related to revenue
generation and digital platforms within the specific context of the organization.
This targeted approach will enhance the validity and relevance of our findings,
allowing us to provide meaningful insights that can be applied to similar media
organizations facing similar challenges in the industry.
SAMPLING STRATEGY
The following sampling strategy will be used the research proposal:
a Target population. The target population for this study would be employees
within the public broadcaster radio division of SABC who are involved in the
use of digital platforms and revenue generation.
b Sample size. The sample size can be determined using statistical formulas or
by considering factors such as the desired level of precision and confidence.
For this study, a sample size of around participants would be appropriate.
c Sampling method. A purposive sampling method would be suitable for this
study. This involves selecting participants based on specific criteria relevant
to the research question. In this case, the criteria could include job roles that
involve the use of digital platforms, revenue generation, and experience within
the organization.
d Sampling units. The specific units within the target population that will be
included in the sample could be selected based on the criteria mentioned
above. For example, participants could be selected from different radio
stations within the public broadcaster radio division, or from different job roles
such as sales, marketing, or digital media.
e Sampling procedure. The sampling procedure would involve identifying
potential participants who meet the criteria and inviting them to participate in
the study. This could be done through email invitations or personal contact.
Participants who agree to participate would then be included in the sample.
f Data analysis. Once data has been collected from the sample, it can be
analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques to draw conclusions about
the impact of digital platforms on revenue at SABC's public broadcaster radio
division.
Any ethical considerations and potential biases that may affect the sampling
strategy will always be considered.
