Part 1: The Research Topic (3 points) To start off the first section, tell the title of the article being reviewed, and the full names of the authors, even if the title of the article is in the main heading of your paper. What is the research topic? Discuss the research topic in detail. Do you think the research topic is clearly stated? If not, why not? What important information is missing? Does the research topic address issues related to oppressed, vulnerable, or at-risk populations? In what ways? Please offer your own interpretation and rationale as to why this particular population is or is not vulnerable and/or oppressed and/or at-risk. Part 2: The Literature Review (7 points) Do you think the review of the literature is adequate? o Are there a reasonable number of references cited? How many? (Usually 8-10 references in adequate, although this number varies greatly depending on the topic.) Go to reference list in the back of the article to determine number of sources. o Are the references fairly recent, within 10 years of when the study was likely conducted (not 10 years from today)? Describe. Keep in mind that studies are often conducted two years before publishing. Also, it is fine to cite literature that is dated but considered to be a classic or seminal. What varying viewpoints on the topic are presented? Describe and summarize every key topic that is covered in the literature review. (Typically, each paragraph or two in the literature review deals with a different topic.)
