Part 1: Truss Structure Modelling
Truss Frame: Figure 1 shows five truss elements frame. All the elements have the same material properties, and these are listed in Table 1. The frame is mounted on two supports and is loaded with a concentrated force of 15 kN , as shown in figure 1.
Table1: Truss Frame properties
Truss structure modelling
- Analytical model
Include appropriate hand calculations based on static equilibrium equations and method of joints analysis to determine Support Reactions and Forces in all elements. Use a table of results to show all the forces.
- Numerical model using FEA based hand calculation integrated with a MATLAB code.
Present and explain your finite element model showing the element stiffness and global stiffness matrix, force and displacement vectors and reduced matrices, and finally solve and show in table displacement and nodal forces.
- Numerical model using FEA based Ansys (Workbench only) or Abaqus software packages.
Using a single element for each truss member to present the following results for the Nodal Displacements, Nodal Forces, Support Reactions, Forces, and stress in all elements. For every single requirement, show the title, screenshot results, including the figure title, simple explanation, and table of results.
- Analysis \& Discussion
Make suitable comparison, critique, and discuss your results, methods and appropriateness.
