Part 3. Exif Meta data As we have seen that quite some metadata (hidden text data) are embedded in a JPEG image. IrfanView provides an easy way to inspect the Exif data. Exif records a lot of information of the time/date, camera setting and even GPS location when the photograph was taken. This can be very helpful for the photographer to get the information about the photograph and the camera. This may also create a privacy issue when the image is posted on the Web for public sharing. When it is desired, there are different ways to remove the Exif data. In this exercise, you should take a photograph with a camera. Use IrfanView to display the Exif data. Insert a screenshot of the Exif info in your report. You can use IrfanView to remove the Exif data. Use menu File->Save as and then try to save the image as a different file. In the JPEG/GIF save options dialog, uncheck the box Keep original EXIF data (if JPG to JPG). The Exif data should be removed in the new file. Insert a screenshot of the Image->Information to show that the Exif data were indeed removed
